THE MISSION of the Centers for AIDS Research is to support a multi-disciplinary environment that promotes basic, clinical, epidemiologic, behavioral, and translational research in the prevention, detection, and treatment of HIV infection and AIDS.
The mission of the Center for AIDS Research at New York University School of Medicine is three-fold:
The CFAR at NYU School of Medicine was funded in 1989 to advance HIV/AIDS research by supporting clinicians and researchers at our affiliated institutions. This site is a resource for scientists and clinicians conducting HIV research. The NYU CFAR is part of the twenty CFARs in the country supported by the National Institute of Health, Division of AIDS.
International Programs
The NYU CFAR supports three programs in Kenya:

In addition, The NYU CFAR has established programs in Cameroon, South Africa, Poland, India and China.
For Researchers and Clinicians
Funding:
We provide seed money to young investigators and investigators new to the field of HIV or AIDS research. 4 to 7 high-quality projects are funded each year in all areas of AIDS research. Several technical Core Facilities for Basic Research are funded by the CFAR and made available to the research community. Seminars & Symposia are regularly organized and sponsored by the CFAR at the NYU Medical Center.
For the Public
Clinical services:
NYU has long been a major provider of services to HIV-infected persons. The NYU/Bellevue AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) is one of the most productive in the nation. The CFAR is strongly committed to Education and Outreach. The ACTU at NYU/Bellevue has one of the oldest and most active Community Advisory Board (CAB). We collaborate with NATAP, HIVNET, the LNYC for Families with HIV, and others.
