The Center for AIDS Research at NYU School of Medicine was funded in 1989 to advance
HIV/AIDS research by supporting clinicians and researchers at our affiliated institutions. This site
is a resource for scientists and clinicians conducting HIV research.
The mission of the CFAR is three-fold: to support basic and translational research by providing
core services, seed money, and opportunities for learning and collaboration; to promote the highest
quality of care for those HIV-infected by fostering the involvement of providers and the community in
clinical research; and to share our discoveries with the public, both here and abroad, to improve
quality of care for all those affected by HIV.

The NYU Department of Infectious Diseases and Center for AIDS Research has been
involved with international HIV research and treatment through a cooperative agreement with the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which provides Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief
(PEPFAR) - funded antiretroviral (ARV) medications and services to persons attending our study sites in
Kenya. To read more about the NYU CFAR Bomu Clinic project, please click here.
